Marie Curie Patron visits Acorn
Two of Acorn’s UK factories were visited last week by important guests from the Marie Curie charity.
Marie Curie provide support and care for people living with any terminal illness, and their families, and have been for over 65 years – last year alone they cared for over 40,000 people across the UK.
Christine Hamilton-Stewart MBE, a patron of the charity, and Siobhan Drane, Marie Curie’s Partner Manager, visited to thank Acorn staff for the new national partnership between the two organisations.
Under this unique partnership, Acorn has pledged to provide up to 60 stairlifts each year for people cared for by the Marie Curie charity across the UK. This will allow the charity to support people living with a terminal illness by giving them the freedom to be cared for at home.
Christine Hamilton-Stewart MBE, who helped to raise the £3.5million funds needed to build the Marie Curie Hospice in Bradford, said: “I found the visit fascinating and was so impressed by Acorn’s organisation and the terrific atmosphere throughout the company. This is such an exciting partnership for Marie Curie and thank you so much for the support you are showing to our patients”
Siobhan Drane added: “We both really enjoyed learning more about the wonderful work you all do at Acorn. It really was fascinating. We are very grateful for all of your support and look forward to our continued work together.”
It is a key element of a healthy life at any age, but it is particularly important for seniors
According to the latest projections, the ageing population in Canada will rise to at least 22% of the total by the year 2030.
A recently published report has found that many seniors in residential care could actually be living independently, the facilities overuse medications and lack adequate exercise and recreational facilities.
In this example we helped a stairlift user access his whole house. We installed our curved stairlift solution using our Fasttrack rail system.
